...cats rememb'rin th' mid sevens ohs may recall this pair created some sort kerfuffle with their first wax o' blue eyed soul grooves...that kommotion lasted for all o' 18minits 'n then th' vibe went elsewhere...this here slice was recorded well before that in th' early70's 'n its way th' best deal they ever laid down...funky as yesterdays chicken is gettin someway to it...heads that groove on th'band's betta efforts, th' skynyrds when they get beeredup 'n hit on all cylinders 'n some downhome del&bonnie will dig this hour o' top draw grist...very tight playin with slicin geetar 'n its got some funk to it, great deep keys 'n onit drumz...cant go wrong with happ'nin stew, chippa 'n funkee stuff 'n thats enuff...

...jaxdafax: these stoned beatnix hung out in berkeley 'n not ol' frisco, 'n preferred workin' with hippie chet to wheeladeela bill ... put out independent e.p long before any fool with th' scratch would do this... after some major record cos. got wind o' th' new sound from th' 7hills they got picked up in th' ensuein west coast hippie gimmik feeding frenzy... they came as part o' a deal includin miller 'n th' quicks, though th' river copped for a much smaller advance... not even out o' th traps 'n they’re gettin shafted... made fantastic 1st wax/ got bad reviews (usually a plus when squares are at th' typewriter)... hung with th' digger collective and poet richard brautigan who made an appearance on th' 2nd platta... their sound encompasses folk, country, acid, beat poetry 'n jazz plus anythin that fit at th' time...

...on first peep this kinda looks like some sorta flagrail off'rin 'n a cat could 'n should be forgiven for gettin real hopeful o' some primetime flagblues, but as usual things get fuzzy pretty soon...th' cover offers a lot 'n right there is th' warnin after th' initial jubilation has been tempered with doshgrubbin reality...this wax is a temporal skitzo job comin from a few sources 'n some later in th'70's...its not all bad once its been rinsed a coupla times ... some funky playin is in evidence 'n on trk5 'n ike'n'tina riff is drivin along well nice 'n killin floor is here under 'nother title (strange move, go figure these bootcatz, where their head at?)...when all said 'n done 'n th' hackles have settled 'n th' dust shaken it's a somewhat ohkeedohkee addition to a shamefully small catalog...

...originally to be called buried alive in th' blues this was to be jj's last wax'n we see her movin to what th' management leeches wanted which was to pickup a post protest adult followin...everythin is tidied up 'n some o' th' rough edges smoothed out but still a janis jam...th' 4bonus trx recorded in calgary on july4th70 give an idea as jj's live adaptation o' her current vibe...

...heavy heavy smokedout toastin from youth on this ital plate from 75...one of th'greatest chatsmen from th' early days in kingston town this still astounds in its power to transform th' room into a jamdown heavy manners session...most o' side two is dubs cos no doubt youth had some kinda fallin out over th' dough he was supposed to get, but no matter these dubs are not filla, they are 100% killadilla...go dere natty,lightnin strike 'n th' weakheart drop, dreader than dread...

...despite bein part o' that wimpy limpy singersongwriter family that gave it th' big whinge back in th' early seven ohs this cat is th' odd one out...hes a roadhouse bluesbelta 'n this wax is a real hot2trot southern rock blowout o' th' first order...apart from th' first trk these are all covers o' then well known songs, but als performance 'n th' real solid backin with xcellent geetar 'n keyboards make them fresh 'n firsttime alive...largely forgotten even by catz that dig th' dixie rockin soundz this doesn't disappoint on any trk...a bonefide tiptop effort...

...71 rolls around 'n th' new decade is underway so its time to re-evaluate th' sound...title trk is a nice long tight but loose funkee jam so its kickin off good...some soul jazz crops up 'n then on th' second side theres some lounge jazz grooves with wordless vocals in th' shoo shoo tweet tweet beedoo style which work mytee fine when they've been heard a coupla times...th' last trk is a rip/homage to arthurly which is really good, this one should been longer...forever changes indeed...

...sixth 'n last platta o'this hep country grooves before th' nez got into other type stuff...a full band this time round though its nearer to th' hits biskit than either national bands wax...second side is a kinda suite 'n holds together well, but of course th' whole thing is well nice 'n cool as xpected...

...some well niftee swaggerin boogie riffin hard rock is on this second blast from th'smith 'n basically th' whole blueprint for what they'll do is in place (unfortunately it will be watered down but that needn't concern catz with 'n eye to rockin right now)...every trk moves along real nice with some good humour 'n tastee geetarin...good effort 'n easy to see that th' clean production helps bring tunes to full realisation...
