Sunday

...what makes for a goodlee lobeful with this compilation is th' fact that diff'rent faces got to front for this combo so diff'rent vocalizin styles were fitted to diff'rent grooves whether they be gospel wailin, post brill buildin galpop, r&b hepness, or flowerpower cashin xploito vibes....all this molded into a tee-riff-ik radio blazin soul bag just right for a saturday night finger poppin session...

Tuesday

...somewhat temporal 'n regional disruptions at work here as th' ideas o' norman whitfield 'n phil spector get to work with this late 60s popsoul outpourin o' chippa 'n spiffin up vibes that sure were needed at that time when th' whole world was on th' road to th' unknown like never before...street corner symphonies for cats stranded far from th' block in unfriendly lands...some nice hollywood jazz inflexions appear as if th'cali xperimentor o' jazzboism was also called to add to th' whole swirlin stew...mytee fine grooves that was never duplicated by th' friends later efforts, this is one good xample o' a wax appearin when needed as if sent from a high form o' consciousness...
...nowadaze th' remix kulture has been used by th' bean counters to hopefully prize wedge outta th' roobes who 'think' they're gettin th' goods when th' original aint no use to no-one 'n th' reconfigured is o' even less value...shaftin th' roobes aint no stranger to th' rock'n'roll bizniz but this 71 wax isza nice addition to harrys early efforts, remix or not... songs from both elpees are tampered with to give new sonix to some ol'faves, whether it be new vocals or just a general tomfool'ry height'nin 'n less'nin, slowin/speedin as seen appro. that afternoon(coupla curveballs to keep cats diggin)...could been seen as a stopgap by cats with'n unkind/realistic nature 'r just a cool groove for when such thangs 're needed...

Friday

...there sho' is some funkee stuff goin on with this second solo wax, from flat out trailer twang to some funkee gospel wailin...funkee galpop sashayin to hymanal folk, its all well real 'n down with th' groove...squeekee fiddles, tambourines 'n cowbell all add to th' flavor makin this a much better elpee than alotta cats were once willin to admit...even th' covers gotta be one o' th' funkiest 'n thats th' plain truth, jack, sho is funkee...

Sunday

...second platta sees harry movin away from fab4
'n general artpop ideas developin his showbiz side o' writin...hep toons for a maybe hep hollywood...any o' these numbers coulda cropped up inna nowgenerationflik 'n one did but that was a cover version, but that dont make no nevermind cos harrys own songs became hits, for others, so th' balance o' thangs was kept in check...

...back in th' late sixohs high up in laurel canyon th' idea o' rekindlin th' past into new ways o' thinkin was takin off, due in no small way to those basement tape tunes floatin on th' ether 'round hep pads...this bein part o' th' hollywood area in geographical location 'n happ'nstance with cowboy programs/propaganda flix/censored news all pourin into th' civilians vision/mind th' way back/forward was to graft country(th' sound o' th' enemy/older folks) music onto some folkrock/blooz spillage to bringabout a new bluecollar sound that would unite kids'n squares against th' real opposition, th' military machine that was killin many abroad 'n at home...one o' th' first canyon efforts was lindas first solo foray away from artyfolk into a roots amalgam o' honkytonk/nashville/rockpop with some fine funkee playin by all concerned...better than many have tried to persuade, this is still a long way from stylish asylum coke tuneage...her waxins 'round th early 70s were a real nice gloop o' honkyrockcountrytonk before that trend homegenized into thin weak blandness 'n finally disappeared into nothin...

Thursday

...by th' time nineteen71 rolls round laura had decided it was time to get back, get back to a simpler, more honest time as had been shown by bobs basement tapes that had been circulatin in hep pads a good three years 'n yet th' desire to get back was in th' air still...everyone needed to chill 'n rethink this anti capitalist/pig hatin/lsdmadness that had gripped a generation (in urban locales mainly, th' roobes still believ'd th' governments killin machine/couldn't happen here/dragracin),'n what better way than xcapin into th' past, whether real or imaginary...lauras past as'n angelheaded beatnik in th'boogeedown, cuttin up a stone groove singin in th' subways'n diggin th'beat 'n th'vibes, list'nin to r'n'b on th'radio 'n gettin hep to th'city'n city ways...labelle help out with some add'd authentic galpop/r'n'b grooves 'n make this a real nice thang to get down with...this is'n invitation to take th' el to 169th street 'n 1961...'n thats gotta be good2go in this day as it was backadaze...this elpee was like refuelin for th' continued struggle against th' oppressive state...

Wednesday

...this isa kinda progrock effort from 68 but th' tunes 're two three minits each 'n not 20minits stretchathons...these cats came outta music college at just th' right time, just as th' noise o' youth was gettin wigged out in all directions...acidrock/psychpop/artpop 'n to a small degree jazzrock were all gainin some headway in markets from headshops to chain stores across th' land...this first wax (on th' then magnificent elektra label) has all th' elements from th' afore mention'd styles all rolled together into a psychodelikchambergroup with horns...on a coupla trx th' sound o' autosalvage comes thru which may make a few heads groove that little bit xtra...cats who aint had th' privilege o' bein down with this disk back in th' day may need to play this a coupla times before gettin with th' lobe massage...

Tuesday

...takin some ideas 'n tunes from th' fab4 'n some poptoons from his childhood harry came up with a studio produced wax that fits right in with th' art pop movements that was makin some headway with cats who didn't quite dig th' allout assault o' psychodelik rakkit 'n lucygenixdrugz...this was informed more by th' 'nvelopin 'n imagination freein world o' pure reefer 'n a desire to make production 'nother instrument to be stretched 'n twisted into new 'n wonderful sound...th' last trk gives some idea o' harrys inspirational startin point in studio manipulation...
...produced by late 60s hep producer from LA,th'one'n only lou adler put together this gospel version o' bobs songs...its obviously some kinda exploito wax'n th'timein was right ('70) for gospel which was 'hot' in th'minds o' normal citizens due to th'ed hawkins singers gettin popchart action, but wrong for gettin full mileage from th'zimms name which was slippin with each passin month(due in no small part to bobs wish to not be spokesman for unknowed thousands who needed to think for themselves)...some well cool session singers crop up here includin clydie king/merry clayton/oma drake'n a well spiffin groove is laid down...toons from all periods o' bobs then first decade spannin catalog're given a spirit raisin vibe that is my-tee-nice,brothah,my-tee-nice...
